Egg Momos Recipe

 




Egg momos are made by wrapping a filling of seasoned scrambled eggs inside a thin layer of dough and then steaming them until they are cooked through.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to prepare egg momos:

Ingredients:

For the dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 cup water

For the filling:

2 eggs

1 finely chopped small onion 

1 finely chopped small tomato

1 finely chopped green chili pepper

1/2 tsp ginger paste

1/2 tsp garlic paste

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp coriander powder

Salt

1 tbsp oil


Instructions:

1. Make the dough by mixing the flour and salt in a bowl. Slowly add water to make a soft dough. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Cover and set aside for 30 minutes.

2. In the meantime, prepare the filling. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it is soft and translucent. Add the ginger and garlic paste and cook for a minute.

3. Add the chopped tomatoes, green chili, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the mixture is well combined.

4. Add the eggs to the pan and scramble them until they are cooked through. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.

5. Once the dough has rested, divide it into small balls of equal size. Roll out each ball into a thin circle of about 3 inches in diameter.

6. Place a spoonful of the egg filling in the center of each circle.

7. Fold the circle over and pinch the edges together to seal the momo. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

8. Steam the momos in a steamer basket for 10-15 minutes, until they are cooked through.

9. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.


Tips:

Make sure the dough is rolled out thin and evenly, as the thick dough can take longer to cook and affect the texture of the momos.

If you don't have a steamer basket, you can use a colander or a metal sieve lined with cheesecloth.

Be careful not to overfill the momos, or they may burst open during steaming.
